Welcome to the South Suburban Music Society Eisteddfod - Perth, Western Australia.
Welcome!
Thank you all for your tremendous support of the Eisteddfod as it made its return last year! We were blown away by the talent on show and extend a huge congratulations to all performers, their teachers, and their supporters for their efforts.
Last year, we introduced a new Chinese Instrument (Guzheng) category and the Australian Composer Premiere section, inspired by the international Van Cliburn Competition. We expanded on the piano solo sections, adding Etude and French Impressionism categories. We established the Christopher Latham Memorial Award in conjunction with Chris’ family, Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) and Zenith Music.
As we enter the 83rd Eisteddfod, we would like to remind you of its beginnings. Established in 1938, the South Suburban Music Society aims to promote the learning, appreciation and stagecraft of music by providing a safe and supportive performance environment for amateur musicians. Our annual Eisteddfod represents the amalgamation of these goals: a showcase of strings, woodwind, vocal, brass, guitar, piano and ensemble performances, ranging from novice to tertiary standards.
We wish to extend a huge thank-you to all of our sponsors - this competition would not be possible without their support.
As always, we look forward to hearing you!
Yours sincerely,
Sophie Fang Lin and Lisa Yang
